Lot 100--Park Sookeun (Korean 1914-1965) A seated woman and bowl signed in Hangul, oil and mixed media on board. Retains the original frame, image 13 5/8 x 9 7/8". Dated 1956, verso retains original paper labels along with price tag of $80.00. Provenance: Consigned privately by family descendents from Massachusetts and originally purchased by a very prominent Boston gentleman who passed away in the 1960's. This painting has never been out of private hands and is the first time on the market since its original purchase in the 1950's.

The collection consists of the first 1786 edition, Pikes Arithmetic, a new and complete system of arithmetic (Nicholas Pike’s copy with hand written notes) a three page letter from George Washington, dated 1788 written to the author commending him on his accomplishments and the importance of the work; Nicholas Pikes personal in depth journal entry book with notes, drawings, and calculations on various subjects including mathematics, navigation, astronomy, dated 1764 ending in 1796; A wonderful detailed Pike Family tree watercolor on paper drawing; An original printed broadside on Pike’s Book on arithmetic.
